Consciousness in the COVID-19 Era  Elizabeth Williamson (Phoenix, ARIZONA )   A1

COVID-19 has undoubtedly been a major topic in the news. Given the nature of recent events in the US, one might say that largely negative emotions have taken over due to a fear of the virus, or a fear of the physical and what it represents. In this context, and as a visual artist, I look at a world where this fear might not exist, one where consciousness-uploading technology proves an existence that surpasses the physical fragility of life. Using my surreal visual art, I hope to inspire through a conversation about the societal, bioethical, and medical challenges of consciousness as well as how consciousness connects metaphysical and scientific beliefs.
